“SE BUSCA” MIGUEL BRIEVA
It's difficult to narrow down the work of Miguel Brieva for those who aren't familiar with it, besides his recognized work as a cartoonist, he's also a prolific writer and musician. His works have been displayed in books like: Dinero (2008), El otro mundo (2009), Memorias de la tierra (2012), Obras incompletas by Marcz Doplacié (2012), Lo que me está pasando (2015), La gran aventura humana (2018), La odisea ilustrada (2019), among many others.
His astute approach to existential themes is enlightening, it brings deep conclusions, open to interpretation, about a dystopian present. Encouraging codes, humor, poetry, and self-critique are born from his witted brush and identify his designs.
Last year, when we were just starting this project [artisan printing], we had the pleasure of working with our most admired partner Miguel Brieva. We didn't have a Proof Press and our workspace was a chaos (and continues to be in its essence), which is why we contracted a Proof Press out of an etching press we had, to whom we added a wooden box and other mechanical details, so we could stamp some engravings next to the letter press type.
We're immensely grateful with Miguel for believing in this cooperative space for creation when it was just at its starting point. Miguel had to do his work in the space while it was undergoing a much-needed remodeling, and adjusting his work ethic to the conditions of this space wasn't easy, but his experience, talent, and joyful company made everything simpler and warmer. We specifically admire his ease when making the transition from his usual drawing style with a technical pen, pencil, Chinese inks on paper, etc, to a technique that demands another logic, carving the inverted image into a wood surface. Definitely, the work he shared during his stay in La Fulmine, were two engravings whose poetic language remind us the potential the imagination has.
We have been keeping this surprise from you for months and we're sure that for the fans of designs with meaning, this work that Miguel Brieva shares with his series "SE BUSCA", is a treasure.

END OF CAPITALISM OR END OF THE WORLD
“We are facing the shadow of the sixth mass extinction, a quick biodiversity loss, a global environmental, sanitarian and climatic crisis, due to Capitalism. A system based on the extraction of limited natural resources for an illimited growth. Capitalism has failed. It is time to end it and start a new way of living on this damaged world, making alliances with the ecosystem and the other species of the planet. Let's be more symbiotic and less parasites”. Andreco
